Abstract

When the quantity and quality of bone at maxillary edentulous area are inadequate for installation of implant, we can use osteotome technique as more conservative procedure among surgical method to overcome the limitation. It has several advantages, for example, simple procedure more than lateral approach to maxillary sinus, short healing period, and prevention of bone loss by excessive drilling or accidental perforation of maxillary sinus, and so on. Also we can use osteotome technique as trabecular impaction at maxillary posterior area which quality of bone is poor, or as ridge expansion osteotomy at bucco-lingually narrow alveolar crest. The purpose of this study are to reveal clinical usefulness of osteotome technique, and to report about various factors influence long-term success rate by observation and analysis of course of 142 implants installed to 58 patients by osteotome technique in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital from June, 2003 to December, 2004.
